Alfa Romeo - Timing belt replacement intervals

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/SvctTQKLn1I/AAAAAAACOyk/Z4lV2Wyrspo/s800/Alfa-Romeo-Autodelta-Brera-S-001.jpg

Short Description
The information relating to timing belt replacement intervals is additional to the main purpose of this CD, but is included to provide guidance to garages and for customer advice. Where possible the recommended intervals have been compiled from vehicle manufacturers’ information. In a few instances no recommendation has been made by the manufacturer and the decision to replace the belt must be made from the evidence of a thorough examination of the condition of the existing belt.

Website: valjo.alfaromeo-bg.com | Filesize: 225kb
No of Page(s): 5

Content

Apart from the visible condition of the belt, which is explained fully later in this section, there are several other factors which
must be considered when checking a timing belt:
1. Is the belt an original or a replacement.
2. When was the belt last replaced and was it at the correct mileage.
3. Is the service history of the vehicle known.
4. Has the vehicle been operated under arduous conditions which might warrant a shorter replacement interval.
5. Is the general condition of other components in the camshaft drive, such as the tensioner, pulleys, and other ancillary components driven by the timing belt, typically the water pump, sound enough to ensure that the life of the replacement belt will not be affected.
6. If the condition of the existing belt appears good, can you be satisfied that the belt will not fail before the next check or service is due.
7. If the belt does fail, have you considered the consequences. If the engine is an INTERFERENCE type then considerable expensive damage may well be the result.
8. The cost of replacing a belt as part of a routine service could be as little as 5 to 10% of the repair cost following a belt failure. Make sure your customer is aware of the consequences.
9. If in doubt about the condition of the belt - RENEW it.

Short Description
Tires are selected according to vehicle characteristics and performances. A careful driving reduces tires wear and increases the grip of tires on road surface; the following table lists the most frequent causes that accelerate tread wear.

Website: 85.92.131.201 | Filesize: 1028kb
No of Page(s): 21

Content

- high speed
- high speed while turning
- hot climates
- high loads
- irregular inflating pressure
- rough road surface
- sudden accelerations and decelerations
- sudden stops

It is then advisable to check periodically the tires wear (checking with a comparator the thread thickness), inflating pressure and general tire conditions (check for absense of damage).

TREADWEAR
The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate of the tire when tested under controlled conditions on a specified government test course. for example, a tire graded 150 would wear one and a half (1.5) times as well on the government course as a tire graded 100. However, the relative performance of tires depends upon the actual conditions of their use, and may depart significantly from the norm due to variations in driving habits, service practices and differences in road characteristics and climate.

Short Description
SELF-DIAGNOSIS - GENERAL INFORMATION
The diagnosis procedure is divided in two groups:
A = Display of errors stored by the control unit.
B = Monitoring of some engine actuators and devices.
The button provided on the steering column performs three separate functions, depending on duration of pressure on the button; these functions are as follows:
T1 = Pressure duration between 2.5 and 5 seconds.
T2- Pressure duration between 5 and l0 seconds.
T3. Pressure duration over l0 seconds.

Content

Procedure A
Press pushbutton for duration Tl after the ignition key has been turned to “run” position: the CHECK ENGINE warning lamp performs a long flashing (about 2.5 seconds).
Following this flashing, series of short flashings is performed (about 0.5 seconds); record the number of flashings since this is the first digit of the error code (consisting of four digits) which will allow identification of the malfunction. Each series of short flashings is separated by a long flashing.
By pressing again the pushbutton for a period Tl will display the second digit of the error code, and so on until all the five defects that can be stored in the control unit memory are displayed. If the pushbutton is not pressed, the systemwill repeat the last sequence of flashings, thus allowing to check the recorded code. When all malfunctions have been displayed, the warning lamp performs a series of long flashings.

STEP 1: Find the static timing point
On the old distributor, note the position of the ignition wire to the number one cylinder. Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine in its normal direction so that the rotor almost points to the number one cylinder position. Now carefully turn the engine further until the static timing point is reached. (check the workshop-manual if you are not sure) The engine is now at the static timing point, near the end of the compression stroke for the number one cylinder.

STEP 2: Out with the old, in with the new
You may wish to verify that the correct advance curve has been selected in your ‘123′: using a 5mm Allen wrench remove the hexagonal plug in the bottom face of the housing. Inside the hole you’ll find a 16 position rotary switch, marked ‘0′ to ‘F’.

Model Year Alfa 159 Arrives in Australia

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/SvXQ8PeyCoI/AAAAAAACOtc/1wn9-mMq34c/s1600/Autodelta-Alfa-Romeo-159-J4-32C-5.jpg

Short Description
The 2009 Alfa Romeo 159 has arrived in Australian showrooms with a wealth of improvements that enhance refinement, comfort and convenience, along with a new engine for the best selling version, the 2.4 JTD Turbo Diesel, but despite the improvements Alfa Romeo is maintaining inclusive driveaway pricing that means savings of up to A$7500.

Website: www.alfaromeo.com.sg | Filesize: 65kb
No of Page(s): 5

Content
“Normally these changes would be called a facelift, but as the 159 is such as stunning car that has been acclaimed for its beautiful design, there are no styling changes,” explains Edward Butler, General Manager of Alfa Romeo in Australia. “All the changes are under the skin and they are aimed at making owning an Alfa 159 an even more fulfilling, enjoyable experience, something that is further enhanced by the absence of any on road costs for a limited time.”

The 2.4 litre 147 kW JTD Turbo Diesel version of the Alfa Romeo 159 has been consistently the most popular version of the Alfa Romeo 159, with its blend of effortless performance and outstanding fuel economy. For the 2009 model year, the existing engine is replaced by the new JTDm version. In figures, most significant change is the lift in power from 147 to 154 kW, but the primary change has been to improve the driving characteristics of the engine, with more low end performance. Additionally, new software has been developed to improve the communication between the new engine and the optional Q-Tronic six speed automatic gearbox for smoother operation, better gear selection and more responsive down shifts.

Short Description
MUCH to the joy of those with a sense of motoring history, marque character – something that all but disappeared with the realignments and takeovers of car companies in the ’70s and ’80s – has become a feature of the products of the late ’90s and new millennium. One of the makes that has led this revival is Alfa Romeo, which, in recent years, has shaken off the badge engineering of the initial period after the Fiat takeover to regain the style and individuality beloved of red-blooded alfisti. No model represents this trend better than the 147, with its classic front-end modelled on that of the 6C 2500 of 1949.

Out on the road, the car simply panders to the senses. In addition to the aural delights, which become even more heady as the engine spins towards its 7 000 r/min red line (and cutout), the view over the sculpted bonnet, the quick movements of the high-geared (2,2 turns lockto- lock) steering and the sensations transferred through the suspension to the seat of the pants make for exciting, almost breathless progress. There are downsides, of course: the fast steering makes for fidgetiness over bumps, the suspension can be noisy, and the taut ride can switch to a shudder that pervades the whole structure on transverse ridges. But handling is top drawer, the steering absolutely precise, providing a feel reminiscent of Alfas of days gone by. Push the car very hard, and slight understeer will set in, but it’s easily, and satisfyingly, controlled with the throttle.

Based on the Brera, itself based on the shortened wheelbase of the 159, the lines of this Spider are enchanting. With the sculpted shape of its boot, its curvaceous wings and its front end aggressively styled with two sets of three headlights, this Spider will not fail to be the centre of attention. What a fantastic success! From whatever angle you view this car, you cannot fail to be seduced by its charm.
Mechanics
Given this great styling, you would obviously expect to find a feisty performance. Under the boot of our test drive car lurked a 2.2 litre four-cylinder engine developing 185 bhp at 6,500 rpm and torque of 230 Nm at 4,500 rpm. Although this looks good on paper, in practice we found it lacked the character of the Alfa engines we knew of old. Hampered by the car’s considerable weight (over oneand- a-half tonnes without load), the engine proved to be linear, with constant thrust over the whole range of speeds. At least it had the merit of getting up to 7,000 rpm, but did this without displaying any raw power. The models in this range have two levels of finish (’Spider’ and ‘Exclusive’), choice of two JTS (Jet Thrust Stoichometric) petrol engines (a 2.4 with 185 bhp also available in Selespeed version, and a 3.2 V6 Q4 with 260 bhp), a diesel engine (2.4 JTDm with 240 bhp) and a Selespeed 6-speed robotised manual gearbox configured for sporty driving. The 3.2 V6 engine is also available with a ‘Q-Tronic’ automatic gearbox.
