The AERA Technical Committee offers the following information regarding an engine oil leak from the camshaft end plugs on 2007-08 Volvo 3.2L engine code 98 engines. Camshaft end plugs are falling out resulting in oil leakage and possible low oil level warnings. This failure can occur on either the intake or exhaust cam plugs.

To cure this problem, Volvo has introduced a new camshaft plug for this engine series. The new plug went into production with engine number 04010816353. Note: The first 6 digits in the engine number indicate production date (format ddmmyy (040108xxxxx) and the last 5 digits is the serial number for that day. This means that:
06120716354 are before break point (December 12 2007)
05010816353 are after break point (January 5 2008)
